Looking for where to buy the RTX 4080? We’ve got our list of where you buy this behemoth of a GPU, which retails at $1199.
In our review of the RTX 4080, we found that the GPU delivers excellent performance at 4K and 1440p, sitting nicely in the middle of the RTX 4090 and the RTX 3090 Ti. The RTX 40-series GPUs are looking mighty indeed. The GPU was revealed at GTC 2022. This card is intended to hit the performance gaming demographic, and will most likely be even more popular than the RTX 4090.
According to a recent leak from Moore’s Law is Dead, RTX 4080s might be in short supply until 2023. Retail sources close to the YouTuber stated: “Honestly 4080 stock is laughable” and “We’re getting less 4080 stock than 4090 had, and we’ve been warned they may not restock this year”. So, if you want to get your hands on an RTX 4080, you might want to do it as soon as possible.

When was the RTX 4080 released?
The RTX 4080 was released on November 16, 2022. This comes slightly before Black Friday. Though, we don’t expect that the GPU will be on sale, or cut in price dominating calendars closer to Thanksgiving.
It has been previously rumored by tech YouTuber, Moore’s Law is Dead, that the 4080 would see a ‘paper launch’. This would effectively mean Nvidia has released the card to the public but would be in short supply.
How much does the RTX 4080 cost?
The RTX 4080 16GB costs $1199. We previously speculated that the now-canceled RTX 4080 12GB would even make it to market as an RTX 4070, but Nvidia was paralyzed over what to actually define it as earlier this year, it appears that the same has happened once again. Now, it appears that it’ll come back as an RTX 4070 Ti.
It’s a tricky one, though for those looking for value. We’re currently witnessing existing GPUs drop in price after cryptocurrency bottomed out spectacularly and hasn’t recovered. After Ethereum moved on from mining via GPUs, there’s been a flood on the secondary market for 30-series models, which could call into question the value of the new GPUs.
How fast is the RTX 4080?
The RTX 4080 is incredibly quick, especially in Overwatch 2. At 1440p, Ultra settings, the RTX 4080 16GB manages to push 470 FPS, while the canceled RTX 4080 12GB pushed around 296 FPS.
We’ve listed full specifications below, in addition to a comparison to the previous-gen RTX 3080 and canceled RTX 4080 12GB.

Comparing these to the previous generation, the 4080 boasts nearly 1000 more CUDA cores than the 3080. However, while the specs comparing the two might be smaller in some aspects, the faster clock speed gives the 4080 an additional boost over their predecessors.
According to reports, the Nvidia RTX 4080 is ‘cut down in some capacity, offering a variation on the ‘full’ chip inside the planned Ti revision.
New TSMC process
In the keynote, Jensen Huang stated that they’d worked with fabrication facility TSMC – who produce a lot of chips for various companies – to build a 4nm process. This allows Nvidia to cram more onto the die housed within the 4080 to produce better results.

Leaker Kopite7Kimi, stated previously to expect the 4080 cards to benchmark around 15,000 in Time Spy Extreme.
On the RTX 4080 16GB, Flight Simulator doesn’t exactly get much of a performance boost – but this could be tied in with the CPU being used. Meanwhile, the Cyberpunk 2077 benchmark goes off the graph with over 3x the performance and Darktide sees just under 2x the performance.
According to Nvidia’s own metrics, the now-canceled 12GB model had a 2.5x performance increase over the RTX 3080 Ti, while in Flight Simulator, just under 2x. Warhammer 40K: Darktide saw an 1.5x increase.
Supersampling applications like Nvidia’s DLSS and AMD’s FSR supersampling will extend their life far beyond what was originally envisioned.
With DLSS 3, we fully expect these to last over five, or six years inside your machine before they need to be upgraded fully.
RTX 4080 16GB vs RTX 4080 12GB: What’s the difference?
The RTX 4080 12GB has now been canceled, and will no longer launch with two different versions. Make no mistake, these were two completely different GPUs, they even used different chips, with the RTX 4080 16GB using the AD103 chip, while the 12GB model was using a cut-down AD104. There’s also a significant difference in CUDA cores, memory bus width, and power.
Should you buy and upgrade to the RTX 40-series?
If you’re on a 10-series or 20-series, yes. Now is the time to upgrade. However, if you’re on a 30-series, no. Unless you absolutely need to remain on the cutting edge.
These cards will either need PCIe 4.0 or PCIe 5.0. Even though 3.0 is forward-compatible, if you’re planning on making the leap to the RTX 4080 or any of its siblings, you’re going to be upgrading the full thing. Motherboard, CPU, etc. It’s time. Let it go.
For those on the 30-series, just don’t bother. The Ti variations might be worth it, but the jump at a consumer – that’s you – level is not worth the hassle of having to get, install and pay out the nose for yet another new GPU.
So if you recently upgraded or built a machine and are now kicking yourself, then don’t. New graphics cards will not magically make your older card slower.
